Sadeeq Agro owner Imran shown arrested in July Uprising murder case
Imran was arrested on 3 March in a money laundering case, sent to jail the next day, and has remained behind bars ever since
Imran Hossain, chairman of Sadeeq Agro, has been shown arrested in connection with the murder of autorickshaw driver Md Roni during last year's July movement in Mohammadpur.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam today (22 September) allowed Imran to be shown as arrested in the case after Sub-Inspector Md Nazmul Islam of Mohammadpur Police Station, the investigating officer, produced him before the court.
According to the case statement, Roni was shot in front of a primary school on Noorjahan Road, Mohammadpur, on 19 July last year. He died later after being taken to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. Roni's mother subsequently filed a murder case with the Mohammadpur Police Station.
Imran Hossain was arrested on 3 March in a money laundering case filed with Mohammadpur Police Station. He was sent to jail the following day and has remained in prison since then.
The money laundering case alleges that Sadeeq Agro brought cattle from Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar and Thailand into the country through smuggling, fraud and forgery.
Sadeeq Agro was also accused of fraudulently advertising Bangladeshi cows and goats as animals of foreign breeds and selling them at high prices in sacrificial animal markets.
The company came under scrutiny last year after a controversy over a Tk15 lakh goat, which they reportedly sold to Mushfiqur Rahman Ifat, son of former National Board of Revenue member Matiur Rahman.
Later, several agencies, including the Anti-Corruption Commission and the National Board of Revenue, started investigating potential irregularities involving Sadeeq Agro.
