Roommate confesses to killing man, dismembering body into seven pieces in Dhaka
Shaheen allegedly killed his roommate Obaidullah following an altercation and later cut the body into seven pieces in an attempt to dispose of it.
A man arrested in connection with the murder and dismemberment of his roommate in the capital's Motijheel area gave a confessional statement before a court today (6 March), admitting his involvement in the crime.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junaid recorded the confession of accused Shaheen Alam and later ordered to send him to jail, said Sub-Inspector Md Ruknuzzaman of the prosecution division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Earlier, on 2 March, the court had placed Shaheen on a five-day remand in a case filed over the killing of his roommate Mohammad Obaidullah.
According to the case statement, Shaheen allegedly killed his roommate Obaidullah following an altercation and later cut the body into seven pieces in an attempt to dispose of it. He then allegedly wrapped the body parts in polythene and transported them on his bicycle before dumping them at different locations across the capital.
Police said Obaidullah was killed on the night of 27 February. The following morning, law enforcers recovered the dismembered body parts from several areas of the city and launched an investigation.
After analysing CCTV footage, police identified and arrested Shaheen, who lived with the victim in a flat on Kabi Jasimuddin Road in Motijheel. Both men worked at Hirajheel Hotel in the area.
