Hazaribagh schoolgirl murder: Accused Siam confesses in court
The suspect, Siam, was arrested by police yesterday morning from the Kathalbagan area in Dhaka.
A suspect arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a schoolgirl in the capital's Hazaribagh area has given a confessional statement before a court today (27 February), admitting his involvement in the killing.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dilruba Afroz Tithi recorded the statement of arrestee Siam Hossain Emon after police produced him before the court, Sub-Inspector Abul Bashar of the prosecution division confirmed the development.
Earlier, the investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Md Matiur Rahman of Hazaribagh Police Station, presented the accused and sought permission to record his voluntary confessional statement.
The court granted the request and later ordered that he be sent to jail after recording the statement. Details of what the accused stated in his confession were not immediately disclosed.
Police arrested Siam yesterday morning from the Kathalbagan area in Dhaka.
According to the case statement, Siam became acquainted with the victim, Shahriar Sharmin Binti, a ninth-grade student of Rayer Bazar High School, when they were both seventh-grade students at Ideal School. Their acquaintance later developed into a romantic relationship, and Siam would regularly visit Hazaribagh to meet her.
Siam later learned through friends that the Binti had been involved in multiple relationships and had close photographs with other boys, according to the case statement. When he confronted her about the matter on several occasions, she denied the allegations and said she had no other relationship.
According to sources, on 25 February, Siam allegedly entered Hazaribagh and purchased a sharp knife from the Tannery Mor area. Later, when they met, Siam again questioned her about the allegations and asked her to confess and seek forgiveness.
When she denied having other relationships, he allegedly took out the knife and stabbed her, sources said. When she collapsed, Siam fled the scene.
Locals rescued the bleeding teenager and took her first to Sikder Medical College Hospital and later to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Following the incident, the deceased's father, Md Billal Hossain, filed a murder case with Hazaribagh Police Station.
