Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Didarul Alam issued the order today (4 April) following a hearing.
A Dhaka court has placed ex-MP of Feni-3 constituency Lt Gen (retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury, who was widely discussed during the 1/11 period, on a fresh three-day remand in a human trafficking case filed with Paltan Police Station in the capital.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Didarul Alam issued the order today (4 April) following a hearing.
After completing a second round of six-day remand, the investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Raihanur Rahman of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, had produced the accused before the court today and sought a fresh four-day remand.
Earlier, Masud was detained from the Baridhara area of the capital on the night of 23 March.
The following day, the court granted a five-day remand, and on 29 March, he was again placed on a six-day remand.
The case was filed on 3 September by Afia Overseas proprietor Altab Khan, accusing 103 individuals, including former expatriates' welfare and overseas employment minister Imran Ahmed, former senior secretary Ahmed Munirus Saleheen, former inspector general of police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed, Catharsis International proprietor Ruhul Amin Swapan and others.
According to the case statement, although there are more than 2,000 recruiting agents involved in manpower export, the accused formed a mafia-style syndicate that created inequality among businesspersons, thereby committing a grave offence contrary to the fundamental principles of the Constitution.
