Indictment hearing in graft case against son of ex-PSC chief's driver Abed Ali now 17 Jun
The Anti-Corruption Commission filed three separate cases on 5 January last year against Abed Ali, his wife Shahrin Akter Shilpi, and their son Siam.
A Dhaka court has fixed 17 June for the hearing on charge framing against Syed Sohanur Rahman Siam, son of former Public Service Commission (PSC) chairman's driver Syed Abed Ali, in a corruption case filed over allegations of acquiring wealth beyond known sources of income.
The date was set today (12 May) by the court of Dhaka Divisional Special Judge Begum Shamima Afroz after the defence sought more time for the hearing, ACC Prosecutor Delwar Jahan Rumi said.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed three separate cases on 5 January last year against Abed Ali, his wife Shahrin Akter Shilpi, and their son Siam.
According to the case documents, Abed Ali was accused of suspicious transactions involving Tk41.29 crore through 12 bank accounts, including deposits of Tk20.88 crore and withdrawals of Tk20.41 crore.
He was also accused of acquiring wealth worth Tk3.72 crore beyond known sources of income.
Shilpi was accused of illegally acquiring assets worth Tk1.26 crore and carrying out suspicious transactions amounting to Tk3.56 crore through two bank accounts.
Siam, a leader of the now-banned Chhatra League, was accused of acquiring illegal wealth worth Tk3.30 crore. The ACC recently submitted a charge sheet against him under section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004.
The ACC arrested Siam on 20 January and has remained in jail since then.
Abed Ali came into public attention following allegations surrounding leaks of government recruitment examination question papers.
