Govt to prepare white paper on education sector corruption since AL regime
Due to the vast scope of the investigation, no specific timeframe for the publication of the white paper has been set yet
The government is preparing a white paper to investigate corruption and irregularities in the education sector between the 2008-09 and 2024-25 fiscal years, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said today (23 April).
However, due to the vast scope of the investigation, no specific timeframe for the publication of the white paper has been set yet, the minister said in a written response to a question from Member of Parliament for Pabna-5 Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas in parliament.
In his query, MP Shimul sought to know whether the government has any plan to investigate the irregularities and corruption committed in the education sector by the previous "fascist government" and publish a white paper, and if so, when it would be implemented.
In response, the education minister said, "The government has, in principle, emphasised taking up investigative activities to review the issues."
The minister further informed that the Ministry of Education has already provided necessary instructions to the relevant authorities.
The main objective of these directives, he said, was to properly verify the potential irregularities, corruption, and management weaknesses of the education sector over that period and prepare an integrated report.
Regarding the question of when the white paper might be published, Milon said, "The government will take the decision regarding the publication of a white paper after analysing the data and information obtained upon completion of the investigation.
"However, as the scope of the investigation is extremely vast, it is not possible to fix a specific timeframe at this moment."
He said as soon as the investigation and verification activities are completed, necessary measures will be taken to gradually prepare the white paper and release it to the public.
