ICT sets 24 Dec to frame charges against ex-BGB officer Redwanul, 3 others in Rampura killings case
Police produced two accused, former BGB officer Lt Col Redwanul Islam and former BGB officer Maj Md Rafat Bin Alam, before the tribunal today, while two others remain at large.
The International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) has set Wednesday (24 December) to pass its order on framing charges against four people, including former Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officer Lt Col Redwanul Islam, in a crimes against humanity case over the killing of 28 people in Dhaka's Rampura during the July Uprising.
A three-member bench of the tribunal, headed by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumdar, passed the order today (21 December).
Earlier in the day, police produced two accused before the tribunal — Redwanul Islam and former BGB officer Major Md Rafat Bin Alam.
The other two accused — former additional deputy commissioner of DMP's Khilgaon zone Md Rashedul Islam and former officer-in-charge of Rampura Police Station Md Mashiur Rahman — are still at large.
During the hearing, state-appointed lawyer Md Amir Hossain appeared for the two fugitive accused, while advocate Hamidul Misbah represented the two who were present. All the defence lawyers sought discharge of their clients.
Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam, Prosecutor Moinul Karim and Shaikh Mahdi represented the prosecution.
After hearing the parties, the tribunal fixed 24 December for its order on the formal framing of charges.
