Hadi shooting: Prime accused Faisal's parents sent to jail after confessional statements
The accused are Faisal’s father Md Humayun Kabir, 70, and his mother Mosammat Hashi Begum, 60.
A Dhaka court today (17 December) sent the parents of prime accused Faisal Karim Masud, also known as Daud Khan, after they gave confessional statements in connection with the shooting of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.
The accused are Faisal's father Md Humayun Kabir, 70, and his mother Mosammat Hashi Begum, 60.
Confirming the matter, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Prosecution) Mia Mohammad Ashish Bin Hasan said, "The two were produced before the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court around 3:30pm. Later, they were brought before the bench and subsequently taken to the judge's chamber to record their confessions under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure."
"Around 8pm, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Monirul Islam completed recording their confessional statements and ordered that they be sent to jail," he added.
DC Hasan further said the investigating officer of the case, Inspector (Detective Branch) Md Mazharul Islam, sought permission to record the confessions after the accused expressed willingness to admit guilt.
In the early hours of yesterday, the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested the parents of Faisal from the Hasnabad Housing area under South Keraniganj Police Station in Dhaka district.
According to the case statement, Hadi, an aspiring independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency, was shot in the head by unknown assailants riding a motorcycle on Box Culvert Road in the capital's Paltan area around 2:20pm on 12 December.
Initially he was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors performed a surgery and then shifted him to Evercare Hospital.
Later, Hadi was transferred to Singapore via air ambulance, where he is receiving advanced treatment.
An attempted murder case was filed with Paltan Police Station on 14 December by Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of the Inqilab Mancha.
So far, 12 people have been arrested in connection with the case.
Meanwhile, Abdul Hannan, the owner of the motorcycle allegedly used in the shooting, was sent to jail after completing a three-day remand. On 15 December, the court granted five-day remand for Faisal's wife Saheda Parvin Samia, brother-in-law Wahid Ahmed Sipu, and friend Maria Akter Lima.
On 16 December, a seven-day remand was granted for Faisal's close associate Md Kabir, while on Wednesday the court approved a three-day remand for Md Nuruzzaman Noman alias Ujjal for allegedly assisting the prime accused in fleeing.
