Gulshan flat scam: Charge framing against British MP Tulip deferred to 28 June
The case, initiated by the ACC, alleges that the accused abused their power and colluded to unlawfully occupy and register a flat belonging to Eastern Housing Limited without making any payment
A Dhaka court today (6 May) deferred the hearing on charge framing against British MP Tulip Rizwana Siddiq and former Rajuk assistant legal adviser Sardar Mosharraf Hossain in a case involving the fraudulent acquisition of a luxury flat in the capital's Gulshan-2 area.
Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of the Special Judge's Court-5 fixed 28 June for the next hearing.
The matter was confirmed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Mir Ahmed Ali Salam, who stated that although the hearing was scheduled for today, the court relocated the date as the judge was occupied with other judicial proceedings.
Tulip Siddiq, the daughter of Sheikh Rehana and niece of ousted former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, was charged alongside Sardar Mosharraf Hossain by the ACC on 11 December last year.
The charges were filed under sections 161/165(A)/467/468/471/109 of the Penal Code, in conjunction with section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
On 18 February, the court accepted the chargesheet and issued arrest warrants against the accused.
The case, initiated by the ACC on 15 April last year, alleges that the accused abused their power and colluded to unlawfully occupy and register a flat belonging to Eastern Housing Limited without making any payment.
The property is located at Road 71, Gulshan-2. The apartment is Flat No B/201, House No: 5A and 5B (old), presently 113 and 11B (new).
The ACC originally named Tulip, Sardar Mosharraf, and former Rajuk assistant legal adviser Shah Md Khosruzzaman in the case.
However, the High Court stayed the investigation against Khosruzzaman for three months following a writ petition filed by him in July.
Previously, on 8 April, the case was transferred from the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court to the Special Judge's Court-5 after it was deemed ready for trial.
The court had earlier scheduled the charge framing hearing for today, which has now been pushed back to late June.
