Further investigation report in Osman Hadi murder case fixed for 3 February
This marks the fourth extension granted to the investigating officers for submitting the further report.
A Dhaka court has set 3 February for the submission of the further investigation report in the murder case of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, the spokesperson of the political-cultural platform Inqilab Mancha.
The report was originally due today (29 January), but the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), tasked with the investigation, could not submit it on time. Accordingly, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Muhammad Zunaid of Dhaka rescheduled the submission for 3 February.
This marks the fourth extension granted to the investigating officers for submitting the further report.
Md Ruknuzzaman, deputy inspector of the Prosecution Department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, confirmed the development.
Earlier, on 6 January, the case investigating officer, DB Police Inspector Faisal Ahmed, filed a charge sheet against 17 individuals.
On 15 January, the plaintiff, Abdullah Al Jaber, general secretary of Inqilab Mancha, filed his objection. The court then directed the CID to carry out further investigation.
According to the case, Sharif Osman Hadi, after the uprising, had formed the political-cultural platform Inqilab Mancha and served as its spokesperson. On 12 December at 2:20pm, assailants on a motorcycle shot Hadi near Box Culvert Road under Paltan Model Police Station, injuring his head and below the right side of his ear. He was initially treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later at Evercare Hospital. As his condition worsened, he was airlifted to Singapore on 15 December for advanced treatment. Hadi passed away a week later, on 18 December, while undergoing treatment.
Following the attack, Abdullah Al Jaber filed an attempted murder case at Paltan Police Station on 14 December, which was later upgraded to a murder case.
