Hadi murder case: CID's further probe report deferred for 15th time
With today's development, the court has granted the investigating officer extensions for the 15th time to file the further probe report
A Dhaka court today (7 June) deferred the submission of the further investigation report in the murder case of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, spokesperson for the political-cultural platform Inqilab Mancha, setting 17 June as the new deadline.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah passed the order as the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the law enforcement agency investigating the case, failed to submit the supplementary probe report by today.
With today's development, the court has granted the investigating officer extensions for the 15th time to file the further probe report, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Prosecution Division Sub-Inspector Ruknuzzaman told The Business Standard.
Previously, Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam had fixed today for the submission of the report after the CID failed to deliver it on 17 May, which marked the 14th extension given to the agency.
According to the case details, on 6 January, the initial investigating officer, Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Faisal Ahmed, submitted a charge sheet naming 17 individuals as accused.
Following this, on 15 January, the plaintiff, Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber, filed a no-confidence (naraji) petition challenging the DB's charge sheet.
In response, the court directed the CID to take over the matter and conduct a further investigation.
According to the case details, Sharif Osman Bin Hadi co-founded Inqilab Mancha in the post-July Uprising period and had been serving as its spokesperson.
At approximately 2:20pm on 12 December, motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire on Hadi in the Box Culvert Road area under Paltan Model Police Station before quickly fleeing the spot.
The attack left him critical, sustaining severe bullet injuries to his head and just below his right ear.
Hadi was immediately rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and subsequently moved to Evercare Hospital for treatment.
As his physical condition continued to deteriorate, Hadi was airlifted to Singapore via an air ambulance on 15 December for advanced medical care.
He passed away there on 18 December while undergoing treatment, a week after the shooting.
Following the initial attack, Abdullah Al Jaber lodged an attempted murder case at the Paltan Police Station on 14 December, which was converted into a murder case later on.
