Formal charges in some crucial cases lodged over the July-August mass-uprising will be filed and the trial to be initiated officially after the Eid vacation, International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam said today (27 March).

"We already received the draft of the probe report in the case filed over the Ashulia genocide, where bodies of six uprising martyrs were torched to hide evidence. We need a couple of days more to prepare the report. We have time till 28 April, but the probe report is almost ready. We would file the report after the Eid vacation," he said while talking to newsmen on the tribunal premises.

The chief prosecutor further said the preparation of the probe report in the case against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina over her command responsibility in the crimes committed during July-August mass uprising, is also at the fag end.

"We hope that the probe report in this case will also come after the Eid vacation. Summary of all the cases will come automatically in this case to prove her [Sheikh Hasina] command responsibility. This is a major case, and that is why it is taking time," Tajul added.

The ICT chief prosecutor said they also received the draft of the probe report in the case filed over the Chankharpul crimes against humanity, adding, "We are trying to give the finishing touch to this. The process of filing the formal charge in this case will also be initiated after the Eid vacation."

Meanwhile, the ICT chief prosecutor threatened to bring people, whoever involved in leaking information about issuing arrest warrant from the ICT, to justice and ensure exemplary punishments for them.

"It is sad such information is getting leaked from somewhere. A group related to the tribunal or from the prosecution, or the office is likely to be behind this. We are analysing the matter with grave concern and collecting evidence," he further said.
