Ex-DGFI official Afzal Naser remanded again in Delwar murder case
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam passed the order today after a hearing, confirmed public prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon.
A Dhaka court has placed dismissed DGFI official Md Afzal Naser on a fresh three-day remand in a case filed over the killing of Delwar Hossain during the July Uprising in the capital's Mirpur area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam passed the order today (17 April) after a hearing, confirmed public prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon.
After completing 18 days of remand in five phases, the investigating officer, Detective Branch Sub-Inspector Kafil Uddin, produced the accused before the court and sought a further 5-day remand.
In the remand petition, the investigation officer stated that preliminary findings have revealed sufficient evidence of the accused's involvement in the incident.
He also argued that further intensive interrogation is necessary to uncover the full details of the incident.
Defense lawyers, however, sought cancellation of the remand and applied for bail, which the prosecution opposed.
After hearing both sides, the court granted a three-day remand.
Earlier, on 30 March, Afzal Naser was arrested from a residence on Road-12 in Mirpur DOHS by the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
According to the case statement, attackers opened fire from multiple directions during the student movement in Mirpur-10 on 19 July 2024, leaving protester Delwar Hossain critically injured with gunshot wounds.
He was first taken to the National Heart Institute and later shifted to a private hospital in Shyamoli, where he died on 21 July while undergoing treatment.
The victim's wife, Liza, filed the murder case with Mirpur Model Police Station on 6 July 2025.
