The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has accepted formal charges against former Dhaka-16 MP Saiful Islam and 18 others in a crimes against humanity case over the killing of Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) student Ashabul Yamin during the July 2024 uprising in Savar.
The tribunal also issued arrest warrants for 13 absconding accused, including Saiful, and ordered six others, who are in custody in separate cases, to be produced before it on 25 August.
The order was passed today (26 July) by a three-member ICT-2 bench led by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury after a hearing, prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim said.

The accused also include former Dhaka ASP (Crime and Operations) Md Abdullahil Kafi, former Dhaka Range DIG Syed Nurul Islam, former Dhaka SP Asaduzzaman Ripon, former ASP (Savar Circle) Md Shahidul Islam, former Savar Police Station OC Shahzaman, former Ashulia Police Station OC AFM Sayed and former Savar upazila chairman Manjurul Alam Rajib.
Yamin, a fourth-year Computer Science and Engineering student at MIST, was shot while attending a peaceful protest in Savar on 18 July 2024, according to the case statement. He was later declared dead at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital.
The complaint was filed on 23 September 2025 by Yamin's maternal uncle, Mohammad Abdullah Al Mun Qadir.
A video that circulated widely on social media showed Yamin being thrown from a police armoured personnel carrier (APC) onto the Dhaka-Aricha Highway while he was still alive.
The footage showed police officers dragging him from the vehicle to the road before leaving him on the highway divider.
