Dhaka-13, Dhaka-5, Pabna-3, Gaibandha-5 candidates challenge national election results in HC
More than 25 candidates have filed similar petitions with the High Court challenging election results in different constituencies.
Four candidates from Dhaka-13, Dhaka-5, Pabna-3, Gaibandha-5 have filed separate petitions with the High Court challenging the results of the 13th national election in their respective constituencies.
One of the petitions have been heard, while the other three remain pending.
In Dhaka-13, Jamaat alliance candidate Mamunul Haque challenged the victory of BNP candidate Bobby Hajjaj.
The High Court has directed the Election Commission to take custody of the ballots and result sheets of the Dhaka-13 constituency. Notices have also been issued to the other candidates of the constituency regarding the matter.
The single-judge bench of Justice Md Zakir Hossain passed the order today (11 March) after accepting the hearing of the case.
In Dhaka-5, BNP candidate Md Nabi Ullah filed a petition against the victory of Jamaat candidate Mohammad Kamal Hossain.
In Pabna-3, BNP candidate Md Hasan Zafir Tuhin challenged the result in which Jamaat candidate Muhammad Ali Asgar was declared the winner.
In Gaibandha-5, BNP candidate Md Faruk Alam Sarker filed a petition against the victory of Jamaat candidate Abdul Wares.
Earlier, more than 25 candidates filed similar petitions with the High Court challenging election results in different constituencies. The court has accepted the petitions for hearing and ordered the seizure of ballots and other relevant election materials for those seats.
