Court seeks tax records of ex-BPDB chairman Belayet
A Dhaka court has ordered the submission of certified photocopies of the income tax records of Belayet Hossain, former chairman of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), and his family members following allegations of corruption.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order today (12 April) in response to an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Riaz Hossain, bench assistant of the concerned court confirmed the information.
Earlier, ACC Deputy Assistant Director and Investigating Officer Md Rubel Hossain filed an application seeking the order for certified photocopies of their income tax documents.
The application stated that the allegation against the accused, Belayet Hossain, regarding the acquisition of assets beyond known sources of income and money laundering abroad is currently under investigation.
In the interest of a fair investigation, the ACC sought to to review the income tax returns from the opening of the files up to the 2025-26 assessment year to collect information on Belayet Hossain's income and expenditures, verify their accuracy, and check if he owns any other assets.
In accordance with income tax laws, the application said a court order is essential to obtain the records in Belayet's name and his family members.
