Court lifts ban on GM Quader’s party activities
The ruling means he is now free to resume their roles within the party without any legal restrictions

A Dhaka court has withdrawn the temporary injunction that had barred Jatiya Party Chairman Ghulam Mohammad Quader (GM Quader) and the party's Joint Office Secretary Mahmud Alam from participating in party activities.
The decision was announced by Dhaka's 6th Additional Joint District Judge Rubaiyat Ferdous yesterday (12 August) after the plaintiff in the case, senior Jatiya Party co-chairman Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud, withdrew his lawsuit.
GM Quader's lawyer, Monwar Hossain Alam, confirmed the development today (13 August), stating that Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud had filed an application to withdraw the case on 2 August.
The ruling means both individuals are now free to resume their roles within the party without any legal restrictions. The lawsuit was subsequently transferred to the 6th Joint District Judge Court on 11 August. The following day, the judge approved the withdrawal application, simultaneously lifting the temporary injunction on GM Quader and Mahmud Alam's party activities.
The injunction had been in place since 30 July, when the court had temporarily barred GM Quader and Mahmud Alam from carrying out their organisational duties. The court had also imposed an injunction on the dismissals of ten party members that GM Quader had previously ordered.
The ten individuals are: Jatiya Party Senior Co-Chairmen Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud and ABM Ruhul Amin Hawladar, Jatiya Party General Secretary Md Mujibul Haque Chunnu, Jatiya Party Office Secretary-2 MA Razzak Khan, Presidium Member Solaiman Alam Sheth (Chattogram), Presidium Member Nazma Akter (Feni), Presidium Member Md Zahirul Islam Zahir (Tangail), Presidium Member Mostafa Al Mahmud (Jamalpur), Presidium Member Jasim Uddin (Netrakona), and Presidium Member Arifur Rahman Khan (Gazipur).
The dispute originated from the dismissal of these ten individuals from their primary membership and all other positions on 28 June.
Their names were also removed from the Jatiya Party's official website. These dismissed leaders filed a lawsuit against GM Quader and another individual on 10 July in response.
Court documents indicate that the legal challenges date back to 18 July 2019, when the party's General Secretary Mashiur Rahman Ranga allegedly violated the constitution by illegally declaring GM Quader as party chairman.
On 28 December of the same year, GM Quader is said to have approved a new constitution through what the plaintiffs described as an illegal party conference and council. The most recent dismissals on 28 June 2025 led to the lawsuit being filed by the ten individuals against GM Quader and three others.
