Court the legal authority to grant Khaleda bail: Quader

Urging the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to shun negative politics, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Friday said the court is the only legal authority that can grant bail to Khaleda Zia.

"The case filed against Begum Zia was not political, so granting bail to her totally depends on the court, not on the government," he said at a press conference at the Awami League President's political office in Dhanmondi.

Urging the BNP to avoid conflict, violence and revenge, Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said then the public support for BNP will increase.

Responding to a query, he said the graft case against the BNP chief was filed during the caretaker government. So, the case is not political and the government has nothing to do to grant bail to Khaleda.

He told journalists that the government is providing proper treatment to Khaleda.

Criticising BNP leaders, Quader said the statements made by them about the BNP chief's health did not match the report provided by the physicians.

Among others, Awami League Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Organizing Secretaries SM Kamal Hossen and Advocate Afzal Hossen, Publicity Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap, Office Secretary Barrister Biplob Barua and Deputy Office Secretary Sayem Khan, were also present at the conference.
