'Chhoto Sajjad' placed on 5-day remand over shooting at police
The order was issued by Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate SM Alauddin Mahmud following a hearing

A Chattogram court today (24 April) granted police a 5-day remand of top criminal Sajjad Hossain alias "Chhoto Sajjad" in a case filed over an attack in which he reportedly opened fire on police while fleeing in the city's Oxygen area in December last year.
The order was issued by Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate SM Alauddin Mahmud following a hearing.
Confirming the development, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Prosecution) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, Mofiz Uddin, said the investigating officer had sought a seven-day remand. "However, after reviewing the case, the court granted a five-day remand."
Sajjad is the son of Md Jamal from Shikarpur in Hathazari. He is a well-known figure in the local criminal underworld, with over 15 cases filed against him, including charges of murder, extortion, and illegal possession of arms.
On 4 December last year, police from Bayezid Bostami Police Station launched an operation in the Oxygen area of the city to arrest Sajjad.
During the raid, he allegedly fired indiscriminately at officers and managed to escape, leaving five people, including police personnel, injured.
Following the incident, Sajjad threatened the officer-in-charge of Bayezid Bostami Police Station during a Facebook live video. In response, Chattogram Police Commissioner Hasib Aziz announced a reward on 29 January this year for information leading to Sajjad's arrest.
He was eventually arrested by police in the early hours of 15 March from the Bashundhara City area in Dhaka.
Later, on the night of 29 March, a deadly shooting occurred in a private car on Bakalia Access Road in the city, resulting in the deaths of two individuals.
On 1 April, Firoza Begum, the mother of one of the victims, Mohammad Manik, filed a murder case with Bakalia Police Station, naming Sajjad, his wife Sharmin, and three others as accused.
In relation to that case, a court had earlier granted a seven-day remand for Sajjad on April 13.
Police say investigations are ongoing as Sajjad is believed to be involved in multiple violent crimes across the city.
