BNP candidates challenge election results for 4 constituencies in High Court
The single-judge High Court bench of Justice Md Zakir Hossain is scheduled to hear the petition today.
Four BNP candidates have filed petitions with the High Court challenging the results of four constituencies in the 13th National parliamentary election. The constituencies are Rajshahi-1, Kurigram-2, Rangpur-6 and Rangpur-4.
The single-judge High Court bench of Justice Md Zakir Hossain is scheduled to hear the petition today (2 March).
The petitioners are BNP candidate Sohel Hosnain Kaykobad for Kurigram-2, Md Saiful Islam for Rangpur-6, Mohammad Emdadul Haque Bhorosha for Rangpur-4 and Major General (retd) Md Sharif Uddin for Rajshahi-1.
Earlier yesterday (1 March), the High Court accepted for hearing separate petitions filed by BNP candidates for Rajshahi-4 DMD Ziaur Rahman and Md Habibur Rahman Habib, who contested from Pabna-4.
Under Section 49 of the Representation of the People Order, the High Court constitutes an election tribunal to hear election petitions alleging irregularities in the polls.
The single bench headed by Justice Md Zakir Hossain is currently hearing the petitions.
