Accused Mizanur sent to jail over attack, vandalism at New Gini Properties
The court sent him to jail after police opposed bail, saying his release could hamper the ongoing investigation.
A Dhaka court today (29 September) sent Mizanur Rahman to jail in a case filed over an attack, vandalism and looting at the New Gini Properties housing project in the capital's ECB area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman passed the order after the investigating officer produced Mizanur before the court and sought an order to keep him in jail, said Tarekur Rahman, a sub-inspector of the prosecution department.
A Detective Branch (DB) team from Gulshan Division arrested Mizanur in West Matikata yesterday afternoon (28 September).

Cantonment Police Station Inspector Subrata Debnath, the investigating officer, told the court that Mizanur had admitted during preliminary questioning that he was involved in the incident. The investigation had also found the complainant's allegations to be prima facie true, according to the police petition.
Police opposed bail, saying Mizanur could go into hiding if released and hamper the investigation.
Mizanur's lawyer Shawkat Hossain sought bail, and the court fixed Wednesday for a hearing on the petition. The court sent him to jail in the meantime.
According to the case statement, around 50 people entered the New Gini Properties Limited project area at ECB Chattar in South Manikdi on 26 September.
The attackers fired around 50 rounds and assaulted people with machetes, knives and sticks, seriously injuring site engineer Md Parvez and several others.
They also looted cash, laptops, computers, BRB cables, cameras and professional media equipment from the project site and vandalised vehicles.
The complaint said the company suffered losses of around Tk1.42 crore, while goods worth Tk1.50 crore were stolen.
The attackers also entered, vandalised and looted popular content creator Salman Muqtadir's BrownFish Studio at the project site.
According to the case statement, the assailants fired at police after law enforcers arrived at the scene. Police then fired five shotgun rounds in self-defence and to bring the situation under control.
Two named accused were arrested at the scene, while another suspect was later arrested during a subsequent drive. Police said locally made weapons and spent bullet casings were recovered from the arrestees.
Saiful Islam Bhuiyan, an official of the project, filed the case with Cantonment Police Station. The case names 13 people as accused and includes another 150 to 200 unidentified suspects.
