Court orders seizure of Tk4.27cr land owned by Nassa Group chairman’s wife
The order was issued today (16 February) by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
A court has ordered the seizure of land worth Tk4,27,70,214 in Cumilla owned by Nasrin Islam, wife of Nassa Group Chairman Nazrul Islam Mazumder, over allegations of corruption.
The order was issued today (16 February) by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
ACC Assistant Director Muhammad Shihab Salam, filed the application seeking the seizure of the properties.
According to the petition, a case was filed against Nasrin Islam on charges of acquiring and possessing assets worth Tk20,26,59,850 through abuse of power, bribery and corruption, which are inconsistent with her known sources of income.
During the investigation, information gathered from various sources indicated that she was attempting to sell or transfer her movable and immovable assets.
If the alleged illegally acquired properties are transferred, converted or sold before disposal of the case, it may cause irreparable loss to the state.
Therefore, the petition stated that the immovable properties in her name or possession must be seized immediately under Section 14 of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012 and Rule 18 of the Anti-Corruption Commission Rules, 2007.
