Court orders seizure of ex-MP Fahmi Gulandaz’s two flats, 16 acres of land
The seizure application was filed by ACC Assistant Director Md Ashiqur Rahman.
A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of 16.23 acres of land and two flats in Dhanmondi and Gulshan belonging to former lawmaker Fahmi Gulandaz of the Mymensingh-10 constituency.
The order was passed today (8 January) by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz, following an application filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), confirmed Bench assistant of the court, Md Riaz Hossain
The seizure application was filed by ACC Assistant Director Md Ashiqur Rahman.
According to the application, Fahmi Gulandaz, while serving as Gafargaon Upazila Parishad chairman and later as a member of parliament, abused his power and amassed assets worth Tk20.11 crore through bribery and corruption, which are inconsistent with his known sources of income.
The ACC further stated that abnormal transactions amounting to Tk60.98 crore and US171,646 were conducted through 16 bank accounts in his name.
A case has been filed under the Anti-Corruption Commission Act on charges of transferring, converting and laundering proceeds of crime. An investigation officer has been appointed to probe the allegations.
During the investigation, reliable sources informed the commission that Fahmi Golandaz was attempting to transfer or dispose of his immovable properties.
The ACC said the seizure order was necessary to prevent the accused from transferring or alienating his assets during the investigation.
