Ex-MP Sabina Akter Tuhin, Mohila League leader Rokeya shown arrested in July Uprising case
After hearing both sides, the court granted the police petitions.
A Dhaka court today (22 June) ordered former member of parliament Sabina Akter Tuhin and Kafrul Thana Mohila League President Rokeya Jamal to be shown arrested in two separate murder and attempted murder cases filed over the July Uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam passed the orders following two separate petitions filed by the police.
According to court documents, investigation officer SI Md Ahsan Sohel Sourav sought to show Sabina Akter Tuhin arrested in a case filed with Mirpur Police Station over the attempted murder of Milon Panna.
The case alleges that on 4 August 2024, during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Milon Panna was shot in the left arm and hip near Ideal School and College in Mirpur-14. A case was later filed against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 400-500 unnamed individuals.
Sabina Akter Tuhin was shown arrested today as a suspect in connection with the attack.
In the second petition, Mirpur Model Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Kabir Hossain produced Rokeya Jamal before the court.
According to the prosecution, Md Shakil was shot in Mirpur-10 during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and later died while receiving treatment. His father subsequently filed a case against named suspects and around 300 unidentified individuals.
Police said Rokeya Jamal had been identified as a suspect in the investigation of the case.
State counsel Shamsuddoha Suman argued in favour of the police petitions, while the defence counsel, Morshed Hossain Shahin, opposed the arrest prayers and sought for their bail.
After hearing both sides, the court granted the police petitions and ordered the two accused to be shown arrested in their respective cases.
