Court orders seizure of ex-minister Asaduzzaman Noor’s tax records
According to the petition, the accused acquired assets worth Tk5.37 crore that are inconsistent with his known sources of income.
A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of income tax records of former cultural affairs minister and veteran actor Asaduzzaman Noor over allegations of corruption.
Judge Md Sabbir Faiz of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court passed the order today (8 April) following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), confirmed Bench Assistant Md Riaz Hossain.
Earlier, ACC Assistant Director and the case's investigating officer, Md Ferdous Rahman, submitted a petition seeking the seizure of the tax documents.
According to the petition, the accused, Asaduzzaman Noor, allegedly abused his power to acquire and maintain possession of assets worth Tk5.37 crore that are inconsistent with his known sources of income.
Furthermore, a case was filed against him under the Anti-Corruption Commission Act and the Money Laundering Prevention Act for suspicious transactions amounting to Tk158.78 crore were conducted through 19 banks and financial institution accounts in his name.
The ACC argued that to ensure a proper investigation, it is necessary to seize and review all income tax records of the accused, from the beginning to the most recent, including permanent and supplementary documents.
