ACC seeks data to re-examine Sheikh Hasina's assets
The ACC has asked that the information be submitted to its concerned office by 6 May
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sought relevant information to re-examine the wealth statement submitted by ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and to investigate allegations of assets acquired beyond her known sources of income.
Deputy Director of the ACC's Public Relations Department, Md Akhtarul Islam, confirmed the matter today (4 May).
According to an official letter issued by the ACC's Dhaka Divisional Office, the commission is re-examining the wealth statement of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina submitted on 2 September 2007, and conducting an inquiry into assets acquired after 2 September, 2008. An investigating officer (IO) has been assigned to reinvestigate the matter.
The letter stated that, in the interest of a proper investigation, it is necessary to collect relevant information from various institutions.
Accordingly, details have been sought from the principal branch of Agrani Bank PLC in Dhaka regarding branch managers and locker-in-charge who served between 1990 and 2008.
The ACC has asked that the information be submitted to its concerned office by 6 May.
The directive was issued under Section 19 of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, and Rule 20 of the Anti-Corruption Commission Rules, 2007.
