Court attaches plots, 3 vehicles of Anisul Huq
The court also ordered the freezing of six bank accounts of the former law minister.
A Dhaka court today ordered to attach 5.37 acres of plots in Mymensingh, Gazipur and Brahmanbaria and three vehicles owned by former law minister Anisul Huq in a graft case.
Judge Md Sabbir Faiz of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to the application submitted by the investigating officer, ACC Deputy Director Jahangir Alam, the current market value of the seized properties stands at Taka 6.25 crore.
The court also ordered the freezing of six bank accounts of the former law minister.
According to the application, Anisul Huq has been accused of criminal misconduct, abuse of power as a public servant and acquiring assets disproportionate to his known sources of income between January 12, 2014 and December 16, 2024.
The ACC alleged that Anisul Huq amassed assets worth Taka 146.19 crore in his own name and in the names of persons related to his interests through dishonest means.
"Suspicious transactions were conducted through 29 bank accounts, where Taka 359.15 crore was deposited, and Taka 316.48 crore was withdrawn, indicating involvement in money laundering activities. A case has been filed against him for concealing or disguising the illegal sources of money obtained through corruption and bribery," it added.
The ACC noted that for the sake of a proper investigation, the seizure of the assets is necessary, and if the assets are not seized, there is a risk they may be sold or transferred, making it impossible to confiscate them in favour of the state following trial, which could cause irreparable loss to the state.
