Law ministry suspends official, former Dhaka CMM Court magistrate, over corruption
Given the severity of the allegations against him, the authorities found his temporary suspension justified.

Former Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) of Dhaka, Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, has been temporarily suspended over allegations of corruption and abuse of power.
His suspension was made in consultation with the Supreme Court. The Ministry of Law issued a notification regarding this on 29 September, though the matter became known today (13 October).
The notification states that a case has been filed against Rezaul Karim, currently attached to the Ministry of Law, for misconduct under the Supreme Judicial Service Code of Conduct.
Given the severity of the allegations against him, the authorities found his temporary suspension justified. In consultation with the Supreme Court, he was suspended under Regulation 11 of the Supreme Judicial Service Code of Conduct-2017, effective immediately.
Rezaul Karim served as the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka from 27 June 2021 until 2 July 2024.
Earlier, on 25 September 2024, a private television channel reported allegations of corruption and a scandal involving a vehicle. The report revealed that Rezaul Karim had taken an accused person's vehicle from DB custody and used it. Additionally, he had obtained a 7.5 katha plot in the Purbachal area from the Ministry of Housing and Public Works without informing the Ministry of Law, while High Court judges typically receive only 5 katha plots.
Further reports also suggested that Rezaul Karim had acquired a 5 katha ready-made plot next to Northern University and had built a three-story house in Sitakunda, Chattogram, while serving as Dhaka's CMM.
