Details to be disclosed after operation ends

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an enforcement drive against Professor Dr Sheikh Golam Mostafa, former director of the National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital (NICRH), who is accused of issuing cheques for Tk200 crore to a "student coordinator" in exchange for being appointed as the interim government's health adviser.
Confirming the matter to TBS on today (28 August), ACC Deputy Director Md Akhtarul Islam said a special team from the commission's head office is conducting the operation.
The ACC's enforcement team is leading the operation at the NICRH and other related offices.
Akhtarul added that Dr Mostafa is being investigated over allegations of abuse of power, amassing wealth illegally and offering bribes to secure an influential position through dishonest means.
"Details will be disclosed after the operation ends," he said.
According to the allegations, in hopes of securing the position of health adviser, Dr Mostafa became involved in a financial transaction with a student coordinator group that identified itself as having come from the state guest house Jamuna, the official residence of the chief adviser.
He allegedly gave them Tk10 lakh in cash and four cheques amounting to Tk200 crore.
