CMP takes special security measures ahead of ex-AL minister Mosharraf’s janaza
An internal directive in this regard has been issued by the CMP to maintain law and order and ensure overall security during the funeral prayers
The Chattogram Metropolitan Police has taken special security measures on important roads in the city to prevent leaders and activists of banned organisations from creating instability around the namaz-e-janaza of former Awami League minister Mosharraf Hossain.
His janaza is scheduled to be held at the Jamiatul Falah Mosque premises in Chattogram city at 11am on today (14 May).
An internal directive in this regard has been issued by the CMP to maintain law and order and ensure overall security during the funeral prayers.
According to the directive, signed by CMP Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime and Operations) Mohammad Faisal Ahmmed, the CMP's South and North divisions have been divided into 12 teams and instructed to remain deployed at important intersections and areas of the city.
The directive specifically stated that officers on duty must strictly ensure that no person or member of any banned organisation can create any kind of instability during the duty period. Checkposts and intelligence surveillance have been strengthened for this purpose.
It also said officers and forces assigned to picket duty will operate regular checkposts and closely monitor the overall security situation. All personnel have been instructed to remain on high alert while performing their duties.
Additional police will also be deployed on important roads and entry points of the city to control the law and order situation surrounding the janaza. Police said special attention will also be given to traffic management.
Nurul Azim Rony, former general secretary of the banned Chattogram city unit of Chhatra League, wrote on Facebook, "The namaz-e-janaza of veteran politician Mosharraf Hossain will be held at Jamiatul Falah ground. But centring on the janaza, Chattogram police have planned special security measures to block the expected gathering of people from Chattogram and Awami League leaders and activists. I strongly condemn this move by the administration."
However, CMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Aminul Rashid told The Business Standard, "It is the responsibility of police to keep the law and order situation in the city normal. The janaza will take place as a janaza. This police deployment has been made as part of regular police work."
