Central Hospital responsible for death of mother, child: Sangjukta Saha
The doctor alleged that a vested group is against the social movement she started to stop caesarean operations
Dr Sangjukta Saha has rubbished allegations made against her by Central Hospital authority, regarding the death of a mother in labour and her newborn, saying she wasn't even in the country at the time of the incident.
She also said the hospital is liable for the deaths.
The patient, Mahbuba Rahman Akhi, was admitted and treated without her knowledge, said Dr Sanjukta during a press conference organised at her residence in Paribagh of the capital on Tuesday.

"Why admit a patient under a doctor who is not in the country? Whose interest is in it? If I don't do the operation and if I am not even in the country, then what is the reason for admitting the patient? It is definitely an illegal system," said Dr Sangjukta.
The authorities did not take her consent verbally or in writing while admitting Mahbuba to the hospital on 10 June, she added.
She alleged that a group was doing these things from enmity against the social movement she had started to stop caesarean operations.
"There is a media trial against me over the deaths. I call upon everyone to stand against this empire of irregularities," said the doctor.
She said, "To cover up the real incident and hide their faults, the vested quarters are using all means and are always busy misleading people of the country with false information."
Central Hospital has been issued a legal notice for spreading false information against her, Dr Sangjukta said.
The doctor also mentioned that Akhi was not her regular patient. "Akhi only visited me twice in March which can be proved from the hospital file."
Earlier on 14 June, Akhi's family members alleged that Central Hospital deceived them by saying gynaecologist Sangjukta Saha was present during the delivery of Akhi's child, leading to the newborn's death and major injuries to the mother.
A written complaint was filed with the Dhanmondi police station over the incident alleging deception and improper treatment by physicians Dr Shahjadi and Dr Munna. Dhanmondi police, later, arrested them.
Akhi, who was in critical condition following treatment at the Central Hospital, died while undergoing treatment at the capital's LabAid Hospital on 18 June.
On Monday, Central Hospital's Dr Director ATM Nazrul Islam blamed Dr Sangjukta Saha primarily as well as the doctors who were on duty at the operating theatre for not calling seniors.
The hospital will hold a press conference at 10am on Wednesday to address the issue. The hospital has covered the name of Dr Sangjukta Saha in its list of doctors.
Meanwhile, demanding the immediate release of Dr Shahjadi and Dr Munna, the Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Bangladesh issued a press release on Tuesday saying they were arrested before the accusation against them could be proved.
