CEC AMM Nasir meets Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed
Preparations for the schedule announcement for the upcoming polls are in their final phase.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin today met Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed at the Supreme Court ahead of the upcoming national parliament elections and referendum.
The CEC arrived at the Supreme Court at 1:35pm and was welcomed by Supreme Court Registrar General Muhammad Habibur Rahman Siddiqui. The meeting between the CEC and the Chief Justice began at 2:05 pm.
Preparations for the schedule announcement are in their final phase, with the CEC's address set to be recorded on 10 December for broadcast on BTV and Bangladesh Betar. The EC is expected to announce the schedule within this week, ahead of elections planned for the first half of February.
The visit also comes a day before the CEC's scheduled meeting with the president.
Election officials say a range of legal issues may be discussed in the meeting with the chief justice, including pending petitions on constituency boundary demarcation and cases involving candidates seeking to regain eligibility after losing their electoral symbols.
Earlier, the full commission met the chief adviser to brief him on election preparations and thanked him for the government's cooperation.
Today's meeting continues the tradition upheld by previous CECs ahead of major national polls.
