The missing boy was identified as Md Yasin, 17, son of Jahangir Majumdar from Cumilla's Chauddagram upazila.

Warehouse Inspector of Mirkadim Fire Service and Civil Defence Prabir Kumar Debnath said, "Upon receiving the information, two diving units have started a rescue operation to find the boy. As of 5:45pm today, no trace of the boy has been found."

Taslima Begum, aunt of the missing boy, said Yasin works as a rickshaw driver in Dhaka's Gendaria area.

"He came to visit his uncle's house at Mirkadim's Tilardichar area for Eid-ul-Fitr vacation. Around 3pm today, he along with his uncle Shahidullah and other cousins went to nearby Ichamati River to have a bath. While there, he tried to rescue his cousin Billal, who was drowning. Although Billal was brought to safety, Yasin went missing while attempting to save his brother," Taslima said.
