Boy goes missing while bathing at Ichamati River in Munshiganj

A teenage boy has gone missing while taking a bath in the Ichamati River during a visit to his uncle's house on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr at Mirkadim in Munshiganj Sadar upazila.
The missing boy was identified as Md Yasin, 17, son of Jahangir Majumdar from Cumilla's Chauddagram upazila.
The incident happened in the river adjacent to Tilardichar area under Mirkadim municipality in the upazila this afternoon (2 April), according to Fire Service officials.
As of filing this report, two units of Mirkadim Fire Service and Civil Defence were conducting rescue operations to find the boy.
Warehouse Inspector of Mirkadim Fire Service and Civil Defence Prabir Kumar Debnath said, "Upon receiving the information, two diving units have started a rescue operation to find the boy. As of 5:45pm today, no trace of the boy has been found."
Taslima Begum, aunt of the missing boy, said Yasin works as a rickshaw driver in Dhaka's Gendaria area.
"He came to visit his uncle's house at Mirkadim's Tilardichar area for Eid-ul-Fitr vacation. Around 3pm today, he along with his uncle Shahidullah and other cousins went to nearby Ichamati River to have a bath. While there, he tried to rescue his cousin Billal, who was drowning. Although Billal was brought to safety, Yasin went missing while attempting to save his brother," Taslima said.
