BNP leader killed by lightning strike in Bagerhat

A leader of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was killed in Bagerhat's Mongla upazila by lightning strike, while a schoolboy was killed in the same way in Munshiganj's Tongibari upazila today (17 April).
The deceased BNP leader was identified as Md Nasir Sheikh. He used to be the organising secretary of BNP's Mithakhali union ward no-2 unit in the upazila.
Nasir was killed on the spot while catching fish from a pond beside his house, said Sub Inspector (Investigation) of Mongla Police Station Manik Chandra Gain quoting locals.
Meanwhile, a schoolboy named Abir Dewan, 15, was killed by lightning strike while trying to catch fish from a pond in Munshiganj's Tongibari upazila.
Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge of Tongibari upazila Mohidul Islam said, "Police rushed to the spot after being informed. One person was killed and three others were injured by lightning strike there."
The three injured have received treatment at the Upazila Health Complex, locals said.
The incident happened at Tostipur village under Autshahi union in Munshiganj's Tongibari upazila.
The deceased schoolboy was a ninth-grader at Baligaon High School, according to locals.
Harun Bhuiyan, a local, said, "Four people, including the deceased, were preparing to catch fish from a pond around 2pm. Suddenly it started to rain with gusty wind and lightning strikes. Abir was killed by the lighning strike."
