BNP candidate Masud withdraws from Narayanganj-5 race citing family, security concerns
Speaking to reporters, Masuduzzaman said he had been compelled to take the decision due to multiple reasons, including concerns raised by his family. He said he could not disclose all the details.
Masuduzzaman Masud, the BNP-nominated candidate for the Narayanganj-5 constituency, today (16 December) announced his withdrawal from the upcoming 13th National Parliament election, citing family reasons and security concerns.
He made the announcement at an exchange meeting with journalists at the Narayanganj Press Club this afternoon, where journalists and his supporters expressed surprise.
Speaking to reporters, Masuduzzaman said he had been compelled to take the decision due to multiple reasons, including concerns raised by his family. He said he could not disclose all the details.
"I am withdrawing from this election due to family reasons and other issues, including security. Perhaps I cannot say everything here. But, I have been compelled. I apologise to my leaders, activists and the people of my constituency," he said.
He added that he would support whoever contests the election in Narayanganj-5.
When questioned further by journalists, Masuduzzaman reiterated that the decision was personal. He said his family's concerns could not be resolved through negotiation and were central to his withdrawal.
"However, it is not the case that I am withdrawing because the government cannot provide security," he said, further clarifying that his decision was not because the party intended to nominate another candidate for the seat. He said the withdrawal was based solely on personal considerations.
