Narayanganj Swechchhasebak Dal leader killed in clash between 2 groups
The deceased was Azahar Uddin, vice-president of Ward No 9 Swechchhasebak Dal under Kanchan municipality and a resident of the Narabo area.
A Swechchhasebak Dal leader was killed and three others were injured in a clash between two groups over the placement of names on a banner in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj last night (30 January).
The deceased was Azahar Uddin, vice-president of Ward No 9 Swechchhasebak Dal under Kanchan municipality and a resident of the Narabo area.
Rupganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shabzel Hossain said at the time that police had completed the preliminary inquest and were preparing to send the body to the morgue for autopsy.
"Legal action will be taken in this regard," he added.
According to witnesses and party sources, leaders and activists of Ward No 9 BNP and its associate bodies were holding a meeting at the ward BNP office last evening, ahead of a party programme scheduled for today.
They said that during the meeting, an argument broke out between the ward's Swechchhasebak Dal president, Sabuj, and Jubo Dal activist Rajib Hossain over the placement of names on the programme banner.
The verbal altercation soon escalated into a clash when Rajib and his associates, including Hasan, attacked Sabuj, Azahar Uddin, ward Jubo Dal President Ripon, and activist Emrat, according to them.
They added that Azahar was seriously injured after being punched by Rajib and collapsed on the spot.
He was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.
The three other injured leaders are currently receiving medical treatment.
