A group of muggers hacked a bKash agent and snatched Tk10 lakh from him in Kaliakair of Gazipur.

Saiful Islam, 44, a resident of Safipur Rangartek was severely injured in the attack.

Locals rushed him to Safipur Modern Hospital and then he was transferred to Enam Medical College and Hospital in Savar for advanced treatment.

According to eyewitness, Saiful was heading home after closing his shop, carrying a bag containing Tk10 lakh in cash. Suddenly, a group of 5-7 muggers attacked him with a Chinese axe and snatched his bag.

Hearing his cries for help, locals approached, prompting the muggers to hurl explosives to create panic. Using the chaos, the snatchers fled the scene in a car.

Md Aminul Islam, additional superintendent of police (crime) in Gazipur, said officers from Kaliakair Police Station inspected the crime scene upon receiving the report.

Saiful is in critical condition and unable to speak, said the official.

Police have contacted the victim's family, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the culprits, he added.

He said further legal action will be taken upon receiving a formal complaint from the victim's family.
