The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is always ready to deal with any situation, including maintaining the internal law and order and providing security services during the upcoming national elections, said BGB Director General Major General AKM Nazmul Hasan today.

Speaking as the chief guest on Sunday (24 September) at the 45th anniversary celebration of the BGB's Force Support Wing in its Pilkhana headquarters, Nazmul Hasan said, "In addition to border protection, the BGB is always ready to deal with any situation, including carrying out any responsibility assigned and controlling the law and order situation during elections."

The director general further said the BGB plays an exemplary role in providing assistance to the civil administration in maintaining the internal law and order of the country, dealing with any emergencies, including natural calamities, and working with public welfare.

Meanwhile, the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) headquarters has decided to keep forces on standby for immediate deployment in case of any disruptions to the law and order situation of the country, largely due to the ongoing agitation led by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and allied parties, said a press release.

In a directive issued on Thursday (21 September), the headquarters asked 350 APBn members — 300 located within Dhaka and 50 stationed outside the capital — to remain on standby within their respective battalions for a month, from 25 September to 24 October for immediate deployment to control the overall law and order situation when asked.
