BGB seizes smuggled goods worth Tk155.59 crore in December
(BGB) seized smuggled goods worth Tk155.59 crore during operations conducted across border areas and other parts of the country in December 2025.
The seized items included 2.06338kg of gold, 14,883 saris, 26,100 three-piece sets, shirt pieces, shawls and blankets, 26,520 ready-made garments, 9,883 metres of fabric, 443,646 cosmetic items, 16,954 pieces of imitation jewellery, 3,386,882 fireworks, 11,119 cubic feet of timber, 4,639kg of tea leaves, 10,099kg of betel nut, 23,130kg of coal, 708 cubic feet of stone, 176 cubic feet of sand, 4,636 plastic and electronic items, 191 mobile phones, 1,532 mobile displays, 16,473 spectacles, 34,281kg of cumin, 4,787kg of sugar, 103,326kg of onion, 6,060kg of garlic, 1,905 packets of various seeds, 6,575kg of fertiliser, 615 packets of pesticides, 311 litres of diesel, 226,111 pieces of chocolate, and 865 cattle and buffaloes.
BGB also seized one stone statue, along with vehicles used in smuggling activities, including eight trucks and covered vans, 13 pickups and Mahindras, one tractor, seven private cars and microbuses, two trolleys, 69 boats, 25 CNG auto-rickshaws and easy bikes, 53 motorcycles, and 39 bicycles and vans.
Recovered weapons included 12 locally made and foreign pistols, one rifle, three hand grenades, 16 magazines, 336 rounds of ammunition, one mortar shell, 17kg of gunpowder, and six other weapons.
During the same period, BGB also seized a large quantity of narcotics. The recovered drugs included 911,982 yaba tablets, 354g of heroin, 2,101 bottles of phensedyl, 7.439kg of crystal meth ice, 8,999 bottles of foreign liquor, 272.5 litres of locally brewed liquor, 1,207 cans of beer, 1,794kg of cannabis, 232,264 packets of bidis and cigarettes, 32,210 narcotic tablets and injections, 4,217 bottles of Eskaf syrup, 20,848 bottles of various syrups, 11,695 anegra and senegra tablets, five bottles of LSD, and 681,248 pieces of various medicines and tablets.
BGB also detained 171 smugglers on charges of drug trafficking and other smuggling activities. In addition, 134 Bangladeshi nationals, 15 Indian nationals, and 276 Myanmar nationals were detained for illegally crossing the border. Legal action has been taken against all those arrested.
