BGB highlights anti-smuggling operations in Moulvibazar
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has highlighted its measures on border security, prevention of smuggling and drug trafficking, maintenance of law and order, and rescue operations during disasters at a press conference in Moulvibazar.
The press conference was organised on Wednesday, 14 January, by the Srimangal Battalion (46 BGB) under the initiative of the North-East Region, Sarail. Sector Commander of the Srimangal Sector Colonel BM Touhid Hasan briefed the media at the event.
He said that under the Sarail Region, 13 units were working relentlessly across four sectors to safeguard a 1,204-kilometre-long border area. From 1 November, 2025, to date, anti-smuggling operations have resulted in the seizure of contraband goods worth Tk164 crore 19 lakh 50 thousand 472, with 72 accused arrested. During the same period, narcotics worth Tk5 crore 47 lakh 30 thousand 292 were recovered.
Colonel Touhid Hasan also said that the operations led to the recovery of five firearms, including two foreign pistols, along with two magazines, two rounds of ammunition and 24 detonators.
He added that ahead of the upcoming national parliamentary election, BGB had intensified patrols and strengthened intelligence surveillance in border areas to prevent any form of crime or sabotage.
Commanding Officer of the Srimangal Battalion (46 BGB) Lieutenant Colonel Sarkar Asif Mahmud, along with other senior BGB officials, was present at the press conference.
