Benapole land port to remain shut for 10 days during Eid-ul-Adha

All export and import activities at Benapole land port will remain shut for 10 days during the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha vacation.
Sajedur Rahman, general secretary of Benapole C&F Agents Staff Association, confirmed the matter yesterday (3 June).
"All activities at the Benapole port will remain closed from 5 June to 14 June. Port activities will resume on the morning of 15 June. Export and import between Bangladesh and India will be closed down from this afternoon (4 June)," Sajedur said.
According to port sources, the decision to shut down export-import activities between the two countries was taken through an agreement between traders.
However, those having passports will be able to travel between the two countries, port sources said.
Md Shamim Hossain, director (traffic) of Benapole port, said, "Strict security measures have been taken to prevent any untoward incident at the port during the Eid holidays."
"The security staff of the port and Ansar members will patrol the port area both day and night. Besides, members from Benapole Port Police Station have also been informed," Shamim said.
"If any importer wants to release his goods, we will let him to do it. However, all other export-import activities will remain shut," Shamim added.
Rasel Mia, officer-in-charge of Benapole Port Police Station, said, "Police will conduct special monitoring so that no untoward incident happens at the port area."
Ibrahim Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Benapole Immigration, said, "The immigration staff have been kept ready to handle pressure of people with passports."
Shariful Hasan, additional commissioner of Benapole Customs, said, "Our activities will remain shut as the government has declared a 10-day holiday for Eid-ul-Adha."
