Bangladesh opens control room to ensure welfare of expatriates amid Middle East war

The Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment has opened a control room to ensure the welfare and safety of Bangladeshi expatriates in light of the ongoing war in the Middle East, a ministry press release stated.
According to the ministry press release, an office order issued yesterday (9 March) states that the control room will operate from 10 to 16 March 2026, daily from 8am to 8pm, with 21 officers and 42 staff performing duties in three shifts to ensure smooth functioning.
The control room has been set up at the Probashi Call Center in the Probashi Kallyan Bhaban, Eskaton, Dhaka.
Director General of the Wage Earners' Welfare Board Barrister Md Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan will oversee overall management, while Deputy Secretary Md Hedayetul Islam Mondol of the Employment-1 Branch will serve as the Focal Point Officer, the release added.
The press release stated that officials at the control room will maintain communication with the Labour Welfare Wings of Bangladesh missions abroad, if necessary, considering the evolving situation in the Middle East.
They will collect relevant information according to a prescribed format and submit it to the Focal Point Officer, the release concluded.
