Bangladesh Bank buys another $223m from 14 banks
Bangladesh Bank Executive Director and spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan said the total dollar purchases by the central bank in January 2026 so far stand at $411 million.
Bangladesh Bank today (6 January) purchased another $223 million from 14 commercial banks at an exchange rate of Tk122.30 per dollar, the central bank said in a statement.
With the latest purchase, the total amount of dollars bought by the central bank so far in the 2025-26 fiscal year has reached $3.54 billion.
Confirming the transaction, Bangladesh Bank Executive Director and spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan said the total dollar purchases by the central bank in January 2026 so far stand at $411 million.
Bangladesh Bank began buying dollars through auctions in July 2025 as part of its strategy to keep the exchange rate stable.
