Baharul Alam assumes duties as IGP
Baharul Alam officially assumed duties as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) this morning (21 November), as per information from the Media Wing of the Police Headquarters.
Meanwhile, the now former IGP, Md Mainul Islam, has been attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Earlier, the ministry of Home Affairs removed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Mainul Islam from his post as IGP.

On 20 November, Baharul Alam was appointed as IGP, in a notification issued by the home ministry.
Previously, Baharul Alam was the head of the police's Special Branch (SB) and served at the police headquarters.
From 2009 to 2013, he served as the police liaison officer of the peacekeeping department at the United Nations headquarters. He was senior police advisor of the UN peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan in 2015.
Earlier, he served in Croatia, Serbia, Kosovo and Sierra Leone. After being twice deprived of promotions, he retired from service in 2020.
With his appointment as IGP, for the very first time in Bangladesh, a retired police official has been appointed as the police chief.
