Bangladeshis attempting to join Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan under watch: IGP
The IGP also referred to recent media reports about a Bangladeshi man named Faisal, who had earlier travelled to Pakistan and was later killed.
Law enforcement agencies are closely monitoring Bangladeshis attempting to join Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam said today (30 September).
Speaking at a press briefing at the Police Headquarters in Dhaka, the IGP made the remark in response to a journalist's question.
He mentioned that around three months ago, police arrested a man from Savar who had tried to join the TTP to participate in combat. The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police is now investigating whether others are linked to him.
"Although the arrested man claimed he had travelled to Pakistan after performing Umrah, where a friend had encouraged him to join the fighting, he returned to Bangladesh without taking part," he said.
The IGP also referred to recent media reports about a Bangladeshi man named Faisal, who had earlier travelled to Pakistan and was later killed.
"In addition, we have learned of another individual who was reportedly killed; he used to operate drones for the TTP. We have come to know that he is Bangladeshi, but we have not yet confirmed his identity. We are working on that," he added.
