IGP warns police of strict action against misconduct
The IGP said Bangladesh Police is determined to rebuild public trust
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir has issued a strong warning that no member of the Bangladesh Police will be spared if found involved in criminal offences, reaffirming a zero-tolerance policy and commitment to accountability within the force.
"Any police member found guilty of a crime will face proper legal action. No concession will be given," he said.
He made these remarks today (11 April) while speaking as the chief guest at the IGP Scholarship-2025 award ceremony held today at the Bangladesh Retired Police Officers Welfare Association Complex in Rajarbagh.
The IGP said Bangladesh Police is determined to rebuild public trust and "will rise again."
He also announced that every Sadar Police Station across the country has been declared a 'Zero Complaint' police station, aiming to ensure improved public service and accountability at the thana level.
Encouraging students to contribute to the nation, he urged them to pursue knowledge alongside a commitment to public welfare. "You must learn the law, respect it, and develop a mindset to serve society selflessly. Together, we must build a better Bangladesh," he said.
The programme was presided over by Dr M Akbar Ali, President of the Bangladesh Retired Police Officers Welfare Association. At the same time, Kimiya Saadat, managing director (current charge) of Community Bank PLC, attended as special guest.
The IGP also expressed gratitude to retired police officers and suggested taking income-generating initiatives alongside providing scholarships for students.
During the event, students shared their views on "What kind of police they want," emphasising the need for a friendly, people-oriented police force that balances law enforcement with humane behaviour.
A total of 400 meritorious students who achieved GPA-5 in the SSC and HSC examinations in 2025 at police-run educational institutions were awarded scholarships funded by the CSR contributions of Community Bank Bangladesh PLC.
Among them, 100 students from Rajarbagh Police Lines School and College, Shaheed Police Smrity College, and APBN School and College received scholarships, crests, and certificates at the programme, while the remaining recipients will receive theirs through respective police offices.
