Attack on Shohagh Paribahan office: One accused placed on remand, another sent to jail
The duo were arrested yesterday (4 September) in connection with the attack that took place on the night of 3 September.
A Dhaka court has placed one accused, Md Parvez, on a one-day remand and sent another, Zainal Abedin, to jail in a case filed over the recent attack on Shohagh Paribahan's office in Malibagh that left seven people injured.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Partha Bhadra passed the order today (5 September) after police produced them at court and sought a five-day remand for Parvez and requested Zainal be kept in jail, said the court's Sub-Inspector Jinnat Ali.
The duo were arrested yesterday (4 September) in connection with the attack that took place on the night of 3 September.
Following the incident, the BNP-affiliated Swechchhasebak Dal expelled its Ramna Thana Ward-19 convener Billal Hossain, the prime accused, from the organisation.
According to the case filed on 4 September by Sohag Group's Security Officer Dewan Md Al Amin, 18 people, including Billal, and 18-20 unidentified others were accused of attempted murder, vandalism, and looting.
The case document states that the attack stemmed from a dispute when two accused were asked not to smoke in front of the transport company's counter.
Later, led by Billal, a group armed with machetes, knives, and rods allegedly stormed the Sohag Paribahan office, vandalised counters, hacked several people — including company director Ali Hasan Talukder — and looted Tk17,570 from ticket sales.
