Attack on Nur carried out with intent to kill: Fakhrul
Even after the uprising, if law enforcement agencies can attack our leaders this way, just think about what they are doing to ordinary people, Fakhrul said
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur was attacked late last month with the clear intent to kill, regardless of who carried out the assault.
Speaking to journalists after visiting Nur at Dhaka Medical College Hospital today (2 September), Fakhrul said, "What hurt me the most is that whoever attacked him, the intention was to kill Nurul Haque Nur. That is very clear."
Providing an update on Nur's health, he said, "He is doing better than before but is not out of danger. The areas where he was injured are very fatal. He also suffered a brain injury, and there was bleeding."
"After speaking with the doctors, I learned that there has been no negligence in treatment; everything is being done properly. After some rest here, he will need further evaluation abroad. He still cannot eat; he has to take liquid through a tube. His recovery is taking time. He should be sent abroad for evaluation," Fakhrul added.
He continued, "Even after the uprising, if law enforcement agencies can attack our leaders this way, just think about what they are doing to ordinary people."
"The chief adviser has already ordered a judicial inquiry; it should be completed quickly, and action must be taken. I urge the government to send him abroad for better treatment."
