Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman made his recent remarks with full understanding and awareness while warning against threats to the country's independence and sovereignty, said  Brigadier General (Retd) M Sakhawat Hossain, the maritime affairs and labour adviser.

Speaking at a press conference at the Secretariat today (27 February) regarding Beximco Limited's industrial establishments in the Industrial Park, he made the remarks in response to journalists' queries.

When asked about the army chief's statement, Sakhawat Hossain said, "The army chief is far above my level; he commands an entire force. He did not speak without understanding. The rest is about interpretation, which you all know."

"I know him as a very straightforward man. A very, very straightforward man – he speaks his mind, says things upfront. So, I have a lot of respect for him. As for what he said or did not say, I cannot interpret it for you — that is for him to clarify," he added.

A journalist pointed out that the army chief had addressed the chief adviser by name in his speech and asked for Sakhawat Hossain's comments on the matter.

In response, he said, "You should ask him (the army chief) about that."

Earlier, Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman warned that the country's independence and sovereignty would be at risk if internal conflicts, violence, and infighting persisted.

Speaking at an event marking Jatiya Shaheed Sena Dibash 2025 at the RAOWA Convention Hall in Dhaka last Tuesday morning (25 February), he said, "Criminals are taking advantage of our preoccupation with hostility and mutual accusations. I urge everyone to work together and stay united."
