The 3-day expo features food, agricultural machinery, beverage products and packaging materials

The three-day "8th Agro Bangladesh International Expo", featuring food, agricultural machinery, beverage products and packaging materials, started in the capital on Thursday (8 May).
The event is organised by Conference and Exhibition Management Services (CEMS-Global USA) at the capital's International Convention City, Bashundhara.
Around 250 companies from more than 12 countries, including Bangladesh, India, China, Pakistan, Malaysia, Ukraine, and Egypt, have participated in the show with a total of 480 exhibits.
Organisers say the show serves as a one-stop platform for buyers and sellers in related industries. The exhibitions will significantly improve Bangladesh's reputation in the international market by facilitating the exchange of knowledge and technology on a global level, while also contributing positively to the advancement of the country's food and agriculture sectors.
As a special guest, Bangladesh Agro-Processors' Association President Md Abul Hashem said Bangladesh has already crossed the $1 billion mark in agricultural export earnings. "We are now working to take it to $2 billion."
He said that at present, agricultural products from Bangladesh are exported to more than 150 countries, which faced a slight setback due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The inauguration ceremony of the event was attended by Thijs Woudstra, chargé d'affaires of the Netherlands embassy in Bangladesh, as the guest of honour, and presided over by Meherun N Islam, president and group managing director of CEMS Global USA and Asia Pacific.
Other special guests were Nuria Lopez, chairperson of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh; Mahbub Baset, COO of Ifad Multi Products Ltd, and Ishrat Fatema, deputy country director, Swisscontact.
